CPCS A20 Training & Test (7 days of self-study is allowed after training)
The course is largely the same for both Foundation and Experienced Worker courses, but foundation CPCS A20 courses will be longer in duration and include further theory/practical training compared to the ‘Experienced Worker’ course.
The CPCS A20 theory test is a verbal questions and answer session that will take approximately an hour to complete.
The CPCS practical test for the Hoist must be completed within fifty minutes and will consist of the candidate using the machine to complete a variety of activities and manoeuvers including loading and unloading platforms.
This CPCS A20 course includes the following elements:- The nature of the sector of industry
- Roles and responsibilities of the operator
- Basic construction, controls and terminology relating to the Hoist
- Pre-use and running checks
- Signals, instructions and hoist working limitations
- How to place the hoist in an out of service condition, isolate it and secure it
- Precautions for overhead services and other hazards
- Emergency lowering functions
- Relevant regulations and legislation
You must have completed and passed a touch screen CSCS test within the last 2 years. A valid touch screen test result taken within the last 2 years is a mandatory pre-requisite for CPCS, and without this, you are not ready for the next stages. The touch screen test can be applied for and taken at our center by calling 020 3150 1299 .
Step 2: Assessing your Level of Experience and Identifying your CPCS CategoryMost applicants for CPCS cards will already know the category that they are interested in; if you do not know the CPCS Plant category that you want to pursue, please call us on 020 3150 1299.
If you do know your plant category, you then need to assess your existing level of competence; i.e., are you an experienced worker or a novice?
As a general guideline, if you have been working in the construction industry for a period of at least three years and have two years of experience operating a specific item of plant, you might want to consider an experienced worker approach for the specific category. However, if you have no previous experience of CPCS with any category of plant, you should probably enter a CPCS Training program as a novice.
As part of the assessment process, you will need to pass a practical test, and entering the process as an experienced worker when you are not will simply be an expensive mistake.
Step 3: Deciding on the CPCS Training Route or the Assessment RouteOnce you have made your decision on your current level of experience, you can either complete a CPCS Training course for the specific item of Plant at either Novice Level or Experienced Worker level, or alternatively, you can go straight into the theory and practical testing phase without training.
Our CPCS Training courses typically train the candidate to a level of competence so that they can safely operate the machine and to a level where they should be able to pass the CPCS Theory and Practical Tests.
We run foundation courses for novice candidates and experienced worker courses for those who already have experience.
If you have a health and safety touch screen test pass that has been obtained within the last 2 years and feel that you are ready to make an inquiry on CPCS Training, you will also need to supply the following information at the time of booking:
- Full Name
- Date of Birth
- CITB Number
- National Insurance Number
- Date of passing the Health and Safety Touch Screen Test (this must have been passed within the last 2 years)
- Plant Category and Sub-Category where appropriate
All Trainers at EM Construction Training hold numerous health and safety qualifications such as CPCS,NEBOSH,PGCE etc that are all well above the required industry standard to ensure that the delivery of the course is to the highest standard.
Yes, it is accredited by the CITB which stands for the Construction Industry Training Board for short.
There are no prerequisites for the course, but all delegates are expected to already have a valid CSCS card.
The hours are 9am to 5pm for both weekend and weekday courses approximately.
