CPCS Traffic Marshall (A73) Training, Testing & Card

CPCS Traffic Marshal Courses are designed to help you become a qualified Plant and Vehicle Marshaller.

Choose between our CPCS A73 Test only  and CPCS A73 Training & Test courses options, based on your current operating experience.

Those that pass the CPCS theory and practical tests will receive a CPCS Red Card, which is valid for 2 years.

Eligibility

Candidates must have a valid CITB/NOCN Health, Safety & Environment test, taken within the past 2 years; please be aware that your CSCS card may still be valid but your test may be older than two years! In this case, you will need to take a Health, Safety Environment test again.

We do conduct Health, Safety & Environment tests at our Centre as well.

What you need to know

Candidates must bring photo ID in order to take their CPCS tests.

You MUST have passed a CITB or NOCN CSCS HS&E test (it is the test NOT the card)  within the last 2 years before taking any CPCS tests; we provide a SAME DAY CSCS Test service!

It is the responsibility of the booking party to ensure that they meet the entry requirements.

Failure to do so will not entitle the client to a refund.

 

Day 1  –  Online Zoom Theory Class

  • Site induction
  • Introduction to plant & vehicle marshalling including CPCS Test expectations
  • Relevant Health and Safety legislation
  • Roles and responsibilities of the plant & vehicle marshal
  • Plant types, limitations, hazards and stability factors
  • Traffic management plans and work management
  • Preparation for CPCS Theory Tests

Day 2

  • Preparation for practical test (includes role play and vehicle movement) including:
    • Safe positioning
    • Communication methods
    • Preparing for movement
    • How to guide plant and vehicle movement
  • Theory test
  • Practical test

Training Methods

• Day 1 theory is delivered online via Zoom

• Day 2 practical training and testing take place at our approved CPCS test centre

Testing

  • Theory test – Verbal questioning by a CPCS approved tester
  • Practical test – The candidate will guide a moving vehicle under observation by a CPCS approved tester

Note: From our experience, candidates stand a 90% chance of passing the exams if allowed a couple of days to internalise the content of day one. Consequently, we allow a couple of days between day one and day two.

Our CPCS A73 Traffic Marshal course tutors are CPCS approved Trainer card holders with ‘muddy boots’ industry experience ; they are also fully qualified Further Education(FE) teachers with extensive FE teaching experience; consequently, there is very little they would not have experienced with FE or Construction.

CPCS A73 Trainers at EM Construction Training hold numerous Health & Safety qualifications such as NEBOSH,CPCS,CSCS,IOSH, PGCSE etc.; their qualifications are well above the required industry standard, to ensure that the delivery of the course is to the highest standard.

Upon passing the CPCS A73 Theory & Practical tests, the candidate immediately receives a ‘CPCS Letter or achievement’ followed by a Red Trained Operator CPCS card within Fifteen (15) *working days. We apply for the card; you do not have to lift a finger!

We run courses on weekends and weekdays.

EM Construction Training can also provide companies with CPCS A73 Traffic Marshal Training at their venue. A trainer can be sent to the company address and deliver the course if there are a minimum of 4 candidates. Please contact us on 020 3150 1299 for this service.

1. What does the Traffic Marshal course cover?

2. Will I receive certification after completing the course?

Upon successful completion and passing of the CPCS A73 Plant & Vehicle Marshal course, candidates will receive a CPCS Pass Letter issued by NOCN. The official CPCS Red Trained Operator Card will follow shortly after, recognised across the UK construction industry as proof of competence.

3. Are there any prerequisites for enrolling in the Traffic Marshal course?

Candidates must hold a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test or NOCN Health & Safety Pass taken within the last two years. No other formal prerequisites are required, although a basic understanding of construction site operations and safety standards is beneficial

4. How long does the Traffic Marshal course take?

The CPCS A73 Traffic Marshal course is delivered over two days:

  • Day 1: Online theory training via Zoom
  • Day 2: Practical training and CPCS testing at our approved test centre

This structure ensures candidates have sufficient time to absorb the theoretical content before undertaking the practical assessment.

The CPCS A73 Traffic Marshal course is priced at £650 per candidate for our standard two‑day training and testing package.
